HISTORY
Melcom Ltd. began its operations in 1989. The company opened its first store in 1991 in the modestly-sized Central Business District (CBD) of Accra led by Mr. Bhagwan Khubchandani, Mr. Mahesh Melwani, and Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani.
A few years later, Crownstar Electronics Ltd. was established paving way for a major expansion in 1997, which led to the establishment of Century Industries Ltd. in 2000.
Melcom Ltd. later expanded its presence outside of the capital city, Accra, increasing the total number of stores to over 70.
ABOUT THE GROUP
The Melcom Group of Companies consists of four separate entities: Melcom Ltd., Century Industries Ltd., Melcom Travel and Tours Ltd., and Melcom Care Foundation.
Melcom Ltd. is the first company of the Melcom Group, Ghana’s premier retail chain. Apart from capturing an extensive retail market share with a network of more than 70 Melcom retail outlets and 12 cash ‘n’ carry depots, including a growing e-commerce business across Ghana, the Group is well-diversified into other industries as well.
Melcom Group believes in integration, and has grown through backward integration. This has allowed us to enter different industries including electronics assembly and servicing, plastics manufacturing, Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), property development and more. While our main business is primarily driven by retail, we are also strong players in semi-wholesale and wholesale distribution due to a combination of the vast range of goods we stock as well as our wide distribution network.
